What is FaceLift Surgery or Rhytidectomy?
Facelift surgery is an outpatient procedure and recovery time is modest.
Separating the facial skin from the tissues beneath performs the facelift surgery. From here, the
face-lift surgeon is able to remove excess skin and re-drape the facial skin in a way that gives
the face a more youthful look. After the skin is repositioned, the face-lift doctor sutures the
incisions near the front and back of the ear, leaving inconspicuous scars. Oftentimes, extra skin
is removed from the neck as well. Some patients add other surgeries such as eye-lifts or brow
lifts to a face lift surgery to address multiple aging locations on the face.

Before FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) & Neck lift Operation
What is Facelift cosmetic surgery (Rhytidectomy)?
As people grow older, the natural aging process, genetic influences, exposure to the sun, and other factors can cause
the skin to wrinkle and sag. This procedure also referred to as a facelift is designed to tighten the skin and
muscles of the face and neck, from below the lower eyelids down to and including the neck. The results are a firmer,
smoother, and younger looking area.

Goal of FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)neck lift atlanta
The goal of face-lift surgery is to rejuvenate the face and give it a youthful look.
A face-lift surgeon repositions the skin of the face and removes extra skin that develops with
age. A face-lift may be performed with other surgeries to rejuvenate the face, such as an eyelift
or Botox.

The first recorded face lift was performed in Germany by Eugen
Hollander in 1901. So, face-lift surgery has over 100 years of practice under its belt. Face-lifts
are ideal for improving the horizontal wrinkles that develop on the face with age, but may not be
good at removing vertical wrinkles, like laugh lines.

FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) History & Evolution
Face-lift surgery has changed considerably over the years. In the past, the skin was simply lifted
during face-lift surgery, leaving visible scars and a face with a stretched "plastic" look. Now, face
lift surgeons use more advanced techniques, such as plane lifting, undermining, endoscopic face
lift, short scar face lift, lifting deeper layers of the face, tightening the facial muscles, using
behind-the-ear and under-the-hairline face lift incisions, and employing liposuction of the jowls
and neck during face lift surgery. Now face-lift surgery patients enjoy beautiful, natural-looking
results that generally last for 10 years or more. Face-lift surgery restores the youthful contours of
your face, allowing you to look as young as you feel.

Who is an ideal candidate for Facelift plastic surgery (Rhytidectomy)?
Patients should be in good health and have realistic expectations. Understanding the limitations of Rhytidectomy is crucial
and psychological stability is essential. The goal is to improve the overall facial appearance. Important factors to the
success of facelift surgery include: skin type, degree of skin elasticity, individual healing, basic bone structure, and a
realistic expectation. Facelift can be performed on patients as young as their thirties, and as old as their eighties. A
facelift cannot stop future aging or turn back the time. It can, however, help your face look its best and give you a
healthier, youthful appearance, and possibly increase your self-confidence.
During the preliminary consultation, Dr. Movagharnia will examine the structure of your face, skin texture, color, and
elasticity. Photographs will be taken so he can study your face. Individual risks will also be examined, especially those
related to medical situations such as high blood pressure, a tendency to poor scarring, smoking history, and any deficiency
in blood clotting. Dr. Movagharnia will take a thorough medical history, as well as assess your mental and emotional
attitudes toward the surgery. Because a realistic attitude is crucial to the success of the surgery, the surgical
procedure and realistic expectations will be discussed.
Sometimes the overall effect of a facelift will be more successful if additional changes are made in the chin and neck
areas through other facial surgery. Many patients decide to have neck liposuction to remove excess fatty deposits at
the time of facelift, or a chin implant to further refine the jaw line. Dr. Movagharnia can help guide you as to whether
these adjunct procedures are appropriate for you.

How will I know if I am ready for a facelift plastic surgery (Rhytidectomy)?
If skin laxity has reached a level where minimally invasive fillers and superficial skin treatments can no longer provide
rejuvenation, then it may be time to consider a facelift.
Is a facelift plastic surgery done at a hospital/surgical center or in the office?
Surgery is performed safely in the hospital.

What is the difference between a neck lift surgery and a Rhytidectomy?
Typically, a facelift usually includes a neck lift. But in a "mini-facelift," which corrects lax cheek skin and is
usually performed in younger women, does not. As we age, the neck muscle called the "platysma" loosens and fatty
deposits develop underneath its surface. This creates an aged appearance. A neck lift removes this excess skin and
tightens the platysma muscle in the midline to restore a more youthful appearance and excess fat can be suctioned
at the same time. For those over 50, the neck lift is best when used in combination with a facelift. The neck lift
leaves a similar scar as a facelift in front of and behind each ear.
FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Consultation
Make sure that you go over all details about the face-lift procedure with your surgeon. He can
answer all of your questions about the face lift procedures, what to expect, how long the face lift
recovery will last, what medications to take both before and after your face lift, and many other
details. The face-lift consultation is a very important part of the face-lift procedure, and you
should make the most of it in order to have a successful face-lift surgery.

FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Facts
Face-lift surgery complexity and patient needs vary. Some patients have face lift surgery under
general anesthesia and may require an overnight stay in the hospital. Other patients have face
lift surgery on an outpatient basis in hospitals, medical spas, or face lift physician's offices under
local anesthesia with sedation. Your face-lift surgeon will determine the type of care required for
your particular needs.

Other procedures are sometimes also performed during face-lift surgery. These procedures
include facial implants, augmentation, laser resurfacing, injection wrinkle reduction, and facial
liposuction. The face-lift surgery alone generally requires three four hours, and face lift surgery
patients are given medications to assure their comfort after the face lift surgery.

What Should I Expect Before FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)?
Prior to face lift surgery; you will meet with Dr. Fara Movagharnia for an initial consultation. During
this visit Dr. Movagharnia will examine your face's potential for a face-lift, answer your questions about
surgery and take detailed photographs of your face and neck. He will evaluate
your health for surgery as well. Not all individuals are healthy enough to respond well to surgery.
Smokers are especially at risk for surgical complications and difficulties in healing after surgery.

Prior to face-lift surgery, Dr. Movagharnia will ask you to make some medical and dietary changes.
All aspirin, blood-thinning medication and dietary supplements must be discontinued two weeks
before a face-lift and then for some time during recovery. This is to prevent bleeding
complications during face-lift surgery. As well, a face-lift candidate must cease smoking two to
three months before surgery and not smoke while healing. Many complications in healing that
occur after surgery can be linked back to smoking.

You must take certain preparations before face lift surgery or any type of elective surgery.
Important measures before face-lift surgery include eliminating smoking, eliminating the use of
aspirin and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Motrin and Advil, and using
only vitamins and other natural remedies that have been approved by your face lift surgeon.

Face-lift surgery patients with short hair might want to grow their hair long enough to cover any
face-lift surgery incisions planned for the hairline. Men might want to grow a temporary beard
while face-lift surgery incisions heal as male face-lift surgery incisions are placed in the natural
beard line. If you color or otherwise process your hair with chemicals, have these treatments
performed before face lift surgery as these procedures are not allowed for at least one month
after your face lift surgery.

FaceLift Surgery & Rhytidectomy Procedure, Neck lift Operation
How is FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Performed?
A face-lift is technically referred to as a Rhytidectomy, which literally refers to improving the face
by removing skin.

environment, an outpatient surgical center.

Regardless of location, your face-lift will be an outpatient procedure.
Prior to the face-lift surgery, you will meet with the face-lift surgeon to discuss any last minute
questions and prepare for the procedure. The face-lift doctor may make marks on your face to
act as surgical guides for the face lift surgery and he or she will most likely do this while you
are sitting up. This is to account for the differences in the face and skin while lying down. If you
are getting additional procedures beyond the face-lift, the doctor will prepare you for these as
well.

From here, an anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia. The vast majority of face-lifts are
performed under general anesthesia, which renders the patient unconscious or "asleep." Face-
lift surgeons report that this provides a better experience for the patient as well as the surgeon.
For minor procedures, a face-lift surgeon may elect to use local anesthesia, which only numbs
the part of the body being operated on. Local anesthesia offers benefits in recovery time and
cost, but is not usually the best option for a full-face lift.
Facelift Atlanta, Rhytidectomy Atlanta, neck lift atlanta By Dr. Fara @ CCRS Facelift Clinic
While the patient is sedated, the surgeon will begin the face-lift procedure. During this
procedure, the doctor will disconnect the face from the underlying tissues. Making small
incisions in front of and behind the ears does this. The face-lift surgeon separates the facial
skin from what's underneath with surgical scissors and a scalpel. The face-lift surgeon must
take great care to avoid the network of nerves running through this area. While nerve damage is
rare, it is the most common complication during a face-lift. After the facial skin has been lifted
from the underlying tissue, the doctor will remove excess skin and sometimes reinforce the
underlying tissue. The doctor will then draw the skin tighter and suture the skin in front and
behind the ears. These incisions are small and are made to be covered by hair and sideburns.

FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Procedure
Traditional face-lift surgery is a major surgery, and general anesthesia is commonly used. Other
face-lift surgeries often require only local anesthesia with a mild sedative.
After your anesthesia has been administered, your face-lift surgeon then places the face-lift
surgery incisions: usually in front of and behind the ear, sometimes extending to the scalp into
the hairline. Face-lift surgery incisions are always placed in facial creases where they are not
noticeable after they heal.
After the face-lift surgeon creates the incisions, he or she undermines and separates the facial
skin from the deep tissue layers so that excess facial skin can be reshaped or removed.
The face can be contoured with various techniques during face-lift surgery. Your surgeon can
remove the excess skin, and facial fat can be removed with liposuction during face-lift surgery.
Another technique is to reshape the facial skin and muscle rather than removing it. Next,
muscles are tightened and the excess skin is tightened or removed, and the facial skin is
contoured. Finally, your face-lift surgeon closes the incisions with sutures and places a dressing
over your face-lift surgery incisions.

After FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) & Neck lift Operation
FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Recovery
After your face-lift surgery, you will feel some discomfort. Your physician will prescribe pain
medication to make you more comfortable or recommend over-the-counter medication. Your
face-lift surgery incisions will be covered with a large dressing that is worn for the first 24 hours.
On the second day, this dressing is replaced with an elastic wrap. Many face lift surgery patients
experience facial bruising and swelling in the first 24 hours. Drainage tubes to reduce swelling
and excess blood may be in place, and these may remain for a few days following face-lift
surgery.
Generally, face-lift surgery patients can resume hair washing 48 hours after face-lift surgery.
Exercise and other strenuous activities should be avoided for up to four to six weeks until the
swelling is gone. Most face-lift surgery patients can resume office work and other light activities
within one to two weeks after face lift surgery.
Full healing might take up to three months, so be sure to schedule your face lift surgery well in
advance of any major social events such as a high school reunion.

Face-lift surgeons can vary in experience and technique. So, develop good questions for your
potential face-lift surgeon based on information you find on this site. Many of your face-lift
general questions may be answered by material on this site, but a good face-lift doctor can only
answer questions unique to you during a one-on-one consultation.
Whats is the cost of FaceLift operation? Any Rhytidectomy insurance coverage? Facelift cost, Facelift insurance
Face-lift surgery is generally not covered by insurance as it is considered cosmetic or elective.
If a patient is unable to cover the costs of face-lift surgery out of pocket, many doctors offer
payment plans to space out the costs of a face-lift over time. This makes getting a face-lift
more accessible to a wider array of patients. The Face Lift Surgery Costs page on this site
covers cost considerations in more detail.
What are The Risks of FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)?
Surgery does offer a number of risks; including face-lift surgery, which make it important to
choose a good face lift surgeon. These risks include:
Bleeding - Bleeding or hematoma is rare in the majority of procedures, but a more likely
complication than others. Because of bleeding risks during a face-lift, the surgeon will have you
discontinue any substances or activities that increase the chances of hematoma before the face
lift surgery. These include aspirin, blood-thinning medications and certain supplements.
Smoking can also cause bleeding risks and should be stopped two to three months before face-
lift surgery. Hematoma can be prevented by a careful surgeon during the face-lift surgery and
can also be corrected after surgery if it occurs.
Infection - Infection is a risk any time the body is opened surgically and face-lifts are no
exception. Your face-lift surgeon will typically prescribe antibiotics to take after face-lift
surgery. These should be taken with careful adherence to your doctor's recommendations.
Scarring - Scarring is a risk that occurs with any incision. Face-lift scars are not very visible and
kept to a minimum, but they will still always be there. For this reason, the face-lift surgeon
usually keeps scars near the ear in places that are not very visible and easily covered by the hair
or sideburns.
Facelift Atlanta, Rhytidectomy Atlanta, Necklift Atlanta By Dr. Fara @ CCRSAtlanta
Surgical deformities - Imperfect face-lift surgery results are possible and another reason you
should take great care in choosing a good face-lift surgeon for your face-lift. One of these
deformities is often called "pixie ear" and is a deformity in the earlobe caused the too much
tension left on the ear when the skin is sutured into place during a face-lift. As well, men's
sideburns can also be left irregular if the surgeon is not careful with the amount of pressure left
on the skin near the ears. Take care if choosing a face lift surgeon and use the directory of
doctor's on our site to help in finding multiple options.
Psychological risks - A patient suffering from depression before a face-lift or any other plastic
surgery can often carry that depression into the recovery period. Patients normally get down or
discouraged at times during the challenges of the healing process after face lift surgery, but
this can be especially troublesome for those with mental health concerns that need to be
addressed before pursuing cosmetic surgery. A good face lift surgeon will help the patient
recognize if a face lift is not right for them or if they will find it extremely difficult to have a
healthy perspective about the results from their face lift surgery.
Tips To Help You Recover After FaceLift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)
Following Dr. Movagharnia directions will greatly improve the recovery process after a face-lift.
Each face-lift doctor will have their own instructions for you, but the following tips will help with
healing after face-lift surgery:

- Do not take any aspirin, blood-thinners or supplements for the first month after face lift surgery.
These can all cause-bleeding complications and you should only use painkillers that the doctor
prescribes to you.
- Do not smoke during face-lift recovery. Smoking is related to a host of recovery
complications, including bleeding or hematoma. Smoking also inhibits the body's ability to
heal quickly and is not beneficial to the skin of the face.
- You may wash your hair during the first 72 hours after face-lift surgery, but you must be very
gentle and not add any pressure to the suture locations that are trying to heal. You should
not comb or blow-dry your hair for the first week. Also, forego any hair dye procedure or
permanent for the first month following your face-lift.
- You must sleep with your head elevated for the first several weeks after face lift surgery. The
rule of thumb is to use two pillows every night for two weeks. This will keep your head
elevated above your heart, which is important for resolving swelling. Sleeping face down
should not be done obviously as it will apply uneven and unnecessary pressure on your
face while it tries to heal from the face lift.
- Some patients describe having a "squishy" feeling in their scalp after face-lift surgery. This
occurs from a fluid buildup, but is not a problem. The body reabsorbs the fluid within a week.
- Swelling may shift around the face while you heal from your face-lift procedure. This is normal
and the swelling tends to settle in the jowls last.
- You may eat a normal diet after face-lift surgery, but soft foods may be easier to eat. There
may be a tight feeling to your face when you chew, but this is a normal feeling at first. It is
also preferable to keep your diet low in salt following your face-lift.
- Light walking may be resumed three days after face-lift surgery. After three weeks you may
resume moderate exercise, but still steer clear of any strenuous activity with risk of
contact or impact to the face. In six weeks, heavier duty activities may be resumed with greater confidence.
- You must avoid artificial tanning for several weeks at least as it may impair proper healing and
mar the results of your face lift. In general, tanning weathers the skin and is not
recommended if you want your skin to retain a youthful appearance. For the weeks
immediately after face-lift surgery, it is recommended that you apply sunscreen with
diligence whenever you go outside during daylight hours.

How long will the results of facelift cosmetic surgery last?
No facelift surgery can prevent future aging, but a well-done facelift can certainly maintain a much younger appearance
for many years. Skin laxity will typically redevelop gradually over the course of years, at which time some patients
consider revision surgery.

How is the recovery from Rhytidectomy (facelift plastic surgery)?
You will be prescribed pain medication, but most patients experience very little pain after surgery. Some degree of
swelling and bruising is unavoidable, and Dr. Movagharnia may instruct you to use cold compresses to minimize the
swelling. He also asks his patients to use medicine called Arnica Montana which can be obtained over the counter at
the herbal stores to minimize swelling and bruising. Dressings are removed within one to two days. He will also instruct
you to keep your head elevated when lying down, to avoid as much activity as possible, and to report any severe
discomfort.
A drainage tube is sometimes inserted during surgery on either side of the neck region; it is typically removed on the
first or second day after surgery. Sutures and staples are usually removed within five to 10 days following surgery. Dr.
Movagharnia recommends that patients avoid vigorous activity, including exercising and heavy lifting, for six weeks.
Patients should arrange for post-surgery support from family and friends.
Recovery usually takes two to three weeks, though many patients go back to work in two weeks. Scars are usually not
noticeable after they have matured, and are easily disguised in natural skin creases, by the hair, or, in some cases,
by makeup until healing is complete. The aging process continues after surgery, and some relaxation of tissues will
occur over the first few weeks.
